Job Description
Hairstylists shape, style, colour, straighten and permanently wave hair with chemical reformation solution and provide clients with hair and scalp treatments. In some salons the senior stylist or apprentices who are in the later stages of their apprenticeships give a full hair care service to the client. Would be hairdressers are trainees/apprentices and do routine salon chores in the initial stages, assisting senior stylists. This may include client preparation, shampooing, application and removal of simple hair care treatments, plus the sterilization and maintenance of equipment. As the trainees gain experience they carry out more complex tasks under the supervision of the fully qualified beautician.
Some Day to Day Tasks are:
- Client consultation , discuss clients wishes, needs and requirements
- Educate client on hair care needs
- Shampoo condition and rinse hair
- Shape ladies, men’s & children’s hair using different styling tools and techniques
- For men’s hair care services include beard and moustache trim
- Provide hair care services such as deep conditioning, permanent waving, straightening, pre-lightening and colouring, color correction
- Style the hair with the aid of a blow dryer & various types of brushes, curling irons of different sizes, rollers, hooded dryers, hot rollers and other types of equipment
- Reception duties, answering the telephone, arranging appointments, operate the computer
- Operate a cash register
- Selling retail products
- Collect client record cards and transfer information to the computer client file
- Attend hairdressing seminars and advanced courses, to keep abreast with new techniques and products
- An additional service may include a wig/hairpiece service
- At days end, clean the salon, work stations and equipment
