Course Description
Hair Art Academy prepares students for a fulfilling career in the beauty industry. Our 39 Week Diploma course is the proven route to becoming a fully qualified hair professional. Our program is divided into six stages. The first five stages each last seven weeks. The last stage lasts four weeks. It all adds up to complete learning experience and the best possible preparation for an exciting and productive career.
Stage One (Weeks 1-7)
In the first few weeks, students focus on:
- Shampooing, head massage, blow drying and finishing techniques.
- Learning, styling techniques including roller setting, braiding, knotting, finger waves, pin curls, up-do work and how to combine these skills.
- Understanding head shapes and bone structure.
- Learning how to conduct an effective client consultation.
- Learning the nuances of client care, the art of touch.
- Studying hair science and theory.
- Learning the basic precision cutting techniques, introduction to haircutting.
- Being introduced to perm wraps, and color application
Teachers guide and monitor students through all work sessions. Both theory and practical assignments are used to assess progress. At the end of Stage one, a one – on – one informal appraisal is used to ensure that students are reaching their goals.
Stage Two(weeks 8-14)
Students are next introduced to manicure and the fundamentals of perming, while perfecting the basics of cutting hair.
- Understanding color formula
- Understanding color charts
- Understanding classic tint application
- Learning rounded and square graduation
- Understanding shift and movement
- Exploring variety in hair length
- Mastering one-length hair cuts
- Learning basic graduated shapes
- Learning manicures, including nail structures, cutting filing,
- hand massage and product application
Once again teacher’s monitor work sessions to assess student’s progress.
Stage Three (weeks 15-21)
At this point students will learn more advanced cutting and colouring techniques and are introduced to advanced perming, coloring and color correction techniques. Here students cover:
- Short hair looks
- Contempory shapes
- Highlighting and foil work
- Round and square layering
- Advanced perm techniques
- Design Coloring
- Advanced color theory (Six week color intensive program)
Stage Four (weeks 22 - 28)
In this stage emphasis is placed on in-salon work. The men’s haircutting program is introduced. Students will also learn more specialized color and perm techniques.
- Classic men’s cutting techniques ( one week)
- Scissor over comb techniques
- Clipper-cutting and use of clippers as a finishing technique
- Men’s razor technique
- Contemporary coloring techniques
- Latest men’s fashion practical ( models are required for two days)
Students are constantly being monitored on their progress through all practical applications.
Stage Five (Weeks 29 – 34)
This stage is designed to give students the specific coaching and adequate time needed to perfect the skills they have learned. Students will be marked on the clients they do on the floor.
This stage includes:
- Advanced layering and graduation
- Disconnection and freehand techniques
- Advanced finishing techniques
- Introduction to photo work (throughout competition or photo shoots)
- Building an effective resume
- Understanding the salon as a business
- Job preparation
Successful students (passing mark of 80% on both practical and theory exams) and completing the required 1500 hours will be awarded a Hair Art Academy Diploma, in hairdressing fundamentals, haircutting for men and women, hair coloring, color correction, color placement and foils, design perming, up-styling and finishing. On successful completion of our intensive final practical and theory exam you will receive a Color Explosion Diploma, in advanced color training.
